Bacardi Bottle Wall

An illuminated bottle wall. There is an RGB LED module behind each bottle that is controlled from an on board computer.

11 x 23 = 253 bottles in total create this mobile wall that will be taken to festivals this summer in and around Toronto.

Something missing in the video is that the cavities for the bottles are empty at the beginning and people start filling them with containers to reveal the visuals. Everything started when Tom (the client) said I want to make a light bright with bottles for Bacardi, is that possible?

Dr. Katherine Sloan, President of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, recently authorized the establishment of the DMI Advisory Council. The DMI Advisory Council will help us in advancing the goals and stature of the Dynamic Media Institute and will strengthen the DMI outreach to the creative and design communities throughout New England. It is with enormous gratitude that we welcome the founding members of the DMI Advisory Council, listed below:

Planetary, by Bloom, is an iPad-based tool that empowers you to explore your music collection. Albums are planets that orbit around their artist’s star. Audio tracks are moons that orbit at a speed based on the length of the track.

Bloom’s work focuses on “pop-cultural instruments for data expression and exploration”, creating “new types of visual discovery experiences” that help people see “patterns and rhythms in the online services you care about”.

As it says on their website: “Bloom is creating a new type of visual discovery experience on tablets, media consoles, and modern browsers that will provide you with playful, explorable, visually compelling views on personally relevant information from services like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and iTunes.”

It a wonderful spin to data visualization, and with last week’s Facebook acquisition of of Nicholas Felton’s Daytum, this type of work looks to be an area of real growth.

Recompose is a new system for manipulation of an actuated surface. By collectively utilizing the body as a tool for direct manipulation alongside gestural input for functional manipulation, we show how a user is afforded unprecedented control over an actuated surface. We describe a number of interaction techniques exploring the shared space of direct and gestural input, demonstrating how their combined use can greatly enhance creation and manipulation beyond unaided human capability.
